NEET is Compulsory for MBBS in Foreign Medical Institutions

Now the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is mandatory in order to pursue the medical course abroad. Recently the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has approved the proposal of Medical Council of India (MCI). This is to revise the screening test regulations, 2002, to make it compulsory to quality NEET to take admission for foreign medical courses.

The MCI proposal is to bring into notice to the government that foreign medical institutions and universities admit Indian students without proper entrance exam and screening.

“Thus, the Indian Citizens / Overseas Citizen of India intending to obtain a primary medical qualification from any medical institution outside India, on or after May 2018, shall have to mandatorily qualify the NEET for admission to MBBS course abroad\", said the ministry.

According to Ministry of Health, the NEET should be considered as the eligibility certificate for the admission in MBBS course conferring the regulation on Graduate Medical education 1997.

An official told in the press that only 12%-15% are able to clear the FMGE test, which is the licensure examination exam conducted by the MCI. According to stats every year around 7,000 students go abroad to study MCI by attaining essentiality certificate from MCI for taking admission to study abroad. \"If they don\'t clear the FMGE, they don\'t get registered to practice in India. In such cases, they start quackery or practice illegally which can be dangerous. So the move is aimed at ensuring only competent students get to study medicine in foreign universities,\" the official said.

\"As per the data, the percentage of graduates who have studied abroad and have cleared the FMGE has ranged between 13 and 26.9 percent in the last five years. This is really a matter of concern as they go out, spend a lot of money of their parents and are not able to contribute to the healthcare in India once they come back,\" the official told PTI.

Now, it is mandatory for the student who wants to study abroad has to clear NEET test to get the NOC. For more updates in the educational stay tuned to collegemela.com.
