Eligibility criteria released by IIT Kanpur, more students to give JEE Advanced 2018 Exam
This time more students have become eligible to appear in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2018 in comparison to 2017. The Indian Institute of Technology - Kanpur, which is conducting the JEE Advanced exam 2018 has recently released the eligibility criteria.
On the basis of the category-wise distribution, the top most 224,000 aspirants will be able to get selected to appear in JEE Advanced 2018. This means in contrast to the last year, this year 4000 more students will be able to appear in the exam.
The age limit has been relaxed for the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and PErsons with disabilities candidates by 5 %. However, for the other categories the age limit is the same. All the candidates appearing for the exam should have been born on or after October 1, 1993. In consecutive two years the students will be allowed to make only two attempts.
In plus 2 candidates need to bring at least 75% aggregate marks in the board examination. The people with disability (PWD), SC and ST have got the relaxation of 5% in this as well. Other than this the candidates should be able to come in the top 20 percentile of successful students with respect to their boards.
The overall decision to bring the changes in the eligibility criteria taken by the Joint Admission Board (JAB) is the result of incessant increasing intake, in the past three years, in all the IITs. The number of vacancies after the counselling was 121 in 2017, which has soared up from the 96 in 2016.
The percentage of reservation is 27% for OBC-NCL (Other Backward Classes Non-Creamy Layer), 15% for SC (Scheduled Caste) and 7.5% for ST (Scheduled Tribe). The general category is the remaining 50.5 %. Furthermore, to support the candidates of PWD category, 5% horizontal reservation will be provided from each category.
I really appreciate the counselling efforts by CollegeMELA Team. They make medical counselling so smooth and stress-free. The team helped me a lot in as the Medical counselling in India is most confusing and hectic. Especially for the students who score a total which does not guarantee a clear cutoff for any college and pushed to mop-up round for seat allocation. Even team came with us in many different cities and told all the merits and demerits of the colleges because of which I selected a good college. I got a college in India for MBBS with the help of CollegeMELA team. Thanks to them for their support.
