Sep, 03, 2021

Delhi University has received over 2.87 lakh UG applications. Maximum applications were received from aspirants of the Central Board of Higher Secondary Education (CBSE). In total, around 4,38,696 candidates have registered for admission to 70,000 seats in 63 colleges. Tuesday was the last date for applying.

The University said about 2,87,227 applications were paid registrations that will be considered for admission. The Delhi applications opened from August 2 to August 31 this year. Last year, it was opened between June 20 and August 31. The university has recorded the number of applications was from Delhi followed by Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Bihar, and Rajasthan.

Around 1,65,574 applications were from the unreserved category and 1,21,641 applications were from the reserved category which includes Other Backward Classes, Economically Weaker Sections, and Scheduled Castes. In the Sports category, Athletics was chosen by a majority of applications followed by football, basketball, and volleyball. And in the Extra-Curricular Activities (ECA) category, the top applications were received for NCC and Debate.

This year, nearly 80% of applications were from CBSE students. Among this, 40% of applications were from the state of Delhi. But there has been a drop in the number of applications this year. The reason that has been noted for a drop in the number of applications is that the window was open for a shorter time compared to last year as it was open for more than two months.

The first cut-off list is more likely to be released by the Delhi University on October 1 even though it has not been formally announced as CBSE is still conducting physical exams for students at this time.
