24 Fake universities revealed, most of them from Uttar Pradesh.
University Grants Commission declared 24 institutes as fake. This statement was made by the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Monday. It was stated in response to a written question in Lok Sabha. It has also been found that two more such universities were included in the violation of norms. These institutes were functioning against the UGC Act and were found to possess no power to confer degrees to students.
The state of Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of fake universities followed by Delhi. Eight institutes in Uttar Pradesh were functioning as self-styles institutes against the norms of UGC. The following Universities were found in Uttar Pradesh as fake institutes.
Apart from these, Seven fake institutes were found in Delhi. Odisha and West Bengal had two universities each and Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Puducherry, and Maharashtra had one fake university each.
University Grants Commission (UGC) issued public notices about the list of faux institutes in both national Hindi and English newspapers. Mr. Pradhan also mentioned the Commission’s initiative to take action against such universities located in their jurisdiction. These universities were given show cause and warning issues for awarding invalid degrees against the UGC Act, 1956.
